HJ: One of the things that I found really, really important was finding the right mental health support for me and using campus resources to do that. So coming into grad school, I kept seeing a therapist that I had been working with in undergrad. And while that worked for me for several years, as I had new experiences, I started to find that that therapist skill set wasn’t totally right for me anymore.
So I reached out to MIT Mental Health, and I talked to them about getting a referral to somebody in the Cambridge area. It was like, this is what I’m experiencing. This is what I want them to be able to help me with, what I want their approach to be. And they got back to me like shockingly quickly with a suggestion of somebody who seemed like exactly what I was looking for.
And I’ve been working with that person since then. It’s been enormously helpful to work with them for my mental health. And my anxiety is really well managed. And so I was really glad that I did that. And I think it’s useful to remember that your needs for mental health support can change, even if it’s something that you’re already accessing.
