Reckoning with Depression
Jonathon’s first year at MIT had gone really well; he was flourishing academically and socially. At the end of his sophomore year, however, Jonathon began to see a shift in his motivation, which continued to persist despite his best efforts. Eventually, Jonathan became severely depressed and struggled to seek and accept help. Struggling with depression, Jonathan discovered that the key to his recovery lay in accepting and acknowledging his diagnosis.
My classes so far haven’t looked the same way they have the last three years. I am really hopeful that I can continue this pathway now that I have come to accept my diagnosis, my depression, come to understand who I am.”
